Dr Sasha Kljakovic and colleagues self-funded the telehealth app over two years before launching in 2020.
Initial customers were patients connecting to their general practitioners for virtual consultations and prescriptions.
Startup Rollercoaster
The Spark
Well Revolution was founded in 2018 in Auckland by Dr Sasha Kljakovic with co-founders Frayne Cooke and Michael Seymour. It was developed over approximately two years to enable online GP consultations and prescription services.
The Peak
The app launched just before New Zealand’s COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020, offering GPs and patients a way to stay connected remotely. Demand surged as clinics and patients adapted to remote care.
The Drop
Rapid uptake placed pressure on the platform in terms of capacity and user support. Integrating with existing practice workflows and regulatory compliance were additional challenges.
The Reset
Well Revolution added features like messaging-based consultations, repeat prescription handling, and secure prescription delivery to pharmacies. They ensured they worked alongside existing General Practices rather than replacing them.
The Discipline
The company emphasised privacy, security, and clinical governance, collaborating with regulatory bodies. It focused on reliable and accessible service, with doctors available seven days a week.
The Climb
By 2020 and beyond, Well Revolution was serving tens of thousands of patients nationwide, expanding its GP partnerships. It also developed a tech platform called Plait to support digital patient services for medical practices internationally.
